(Statesboro, GA)-

The Greater Savannah Sports Council, Charleston Battery and Tormenta FC have announced an exhibition soccer match to be played in Savannah, Georgia. Tormenta FC and Charleston Battery will go head-to-head on May 10th, 2017.

The clubs will play for the first time at Optimist Field in Daffin Park. The friendly is part of the newly affiliation agreement and kicks off the 2017 season for Tormenta FC, which begins on May 13th.

This event will see Tormenta FC play its first pre-season friendly match since their arrival to the PDL in 2016. “Playing against such a historical and successful club like Charleston Battery is such an honor for our club, fans and community. We look forward to the match and the continued relationship together.” said Tormenta FC President and Owner, Darin Van Tassell.

“The match against Tormenta is exciting for us,” said Battery Chief Operating Officer Mike Kelleher. “Savannah has a great soccer following that deserves the opportunity to see the game played at the highest level in person. We’re looking forward to going down there and playing in front of a different fan base. I’m sure some of our fans here in Charleston will make the trip as well.”

Savannah-native, Nico Rittmeyer looks to get minutes on the field against his former club, Tormenta FC. The Charleston Battery star played with the Tormenta FC PDL team during our inaugural season, scoring three goals and creating plenty more goal-scoring opportunities. Rittmeyer was on trial with Charleston Battery since the beginning of the year and was signed to the USL side in late March!

Tickets for the match in May are on sale now and can be purchased at or Or contact David Ball at 912-682-7862. Daffin Park holds 2,000 people; 1,200 seats and 800 standing room only. Tickets for the seated area are $15, standing room only tickets are $10.

Players and coaches from both clubs will run a joint clinic for a limited number of kids prior to kickoff at 8:00pm. The clinic, which will run from 5:30-7:30, costs $55 and includes a seated ticket to the match and exclusive Nike t-shirt commemorating the game.
