
STATESBORO, Ga. – South Georgia Tormenta FC fought hard tonight but fell 1-2 on the road to Forward Madison FC. The club now returns to Erk Russell Park to close out August with two home matches.
In the 23rd minute, Madison’s Josiah Trimmingham, a center back turned forward, scored from close range after slipping through Tormenta FC’s defense to put the home side on the board first.
Soon into the second half, Azaad Liadi was taken down inside Madison’s box, where Marco Micaletto converted from the spot for his ninth goal of the USL League One season, breaking the club’s individual record for most regular season goals in a single season. Forward then doubled their score with a header to the bottom right corner in the 62nd minute.
With even possession between the two sides, Tormenta recorded 13 shots to Madison’s nine. Notably, Tormenta was missing several key center backs tonight – Lars Eckenrode, Joshua Phelps and Nick O’Callaghan.
Tormenta FC turns around to host New England on Saturday, Aug. 21, for the Back to School Bash. The club will then close out the month with Community Appreciation Night on Saturday, Aug. 28, featuring the Dancing with the Statesboro Stars and benefitting Safe Haven, a local organization supporting those affected by domestic violence.
