South Georgia extends club record to six straight wins
South Georgia Tormenta FC extends its historic winning streak to six games in a row after an intense 3-1 victory over Westchester FC. Forward Niall Reid-Stephen and midfielder Conor Doyle scored tonight’s goals to secure the win.
Reid-Stephen gave the Ibis a 1-0 lead in the 11th minute after receiving a ball over the top from defender Makel Rasheed, with the Barbadian burying it into the back of the net.
Westchester put the pressure on Tormenta throughout the first half in an attempt to get on the scoreline. Their efforts came to a head in the 20th minute, when Westchester midfielder Dean Guezen scored the equalizing goal.
Just before the end of the first half, Israeli forward Yaniv Bazini took on two defenders and served the ball back into the six-yard box to find Doyle. The midfielder calmly placed the ball just past the goalkeeper and into the bottom left corner, giving Tormenta a 2-1 lead.
The South Georgia squad did not let the visitors catch their breath as they went into the second half. In the 46th minute, Reid-Stephen extended the lead to 3-1, scoring from inside the box and crushing any hope for Westchester to make a comeback. This marked the Barbadian’s 12th league goal of the season and second consecutive brace, putting him in contention for the USL League One Golden Boot. Throughout the rest of the half, the Ibis kept Westchester SC at bay and claimed all three points with a 3-1 victory.
South Georgia Tormenta FC hits the road for one last two-game road stretch against Spokane Velocity FC and Greenville Triumph SC on Saturday, October 11, and Saturday, October 18, respectively.
