South Georgia Tormenta FC has signed Gainesville native, Ricardo Gómez, to its 2019 USL League One team, pending league and federation approval. Gómez played the past two seasons with Myrtle Beach Mutiny, the 2018 winner of the USL League Two South Atlantic Division.
“Ricardo is a player that I have been tracking for a few years,” said USL League One head coach John Miglarese. “He is a bright and intelligent midfielder with a relentless competitive mentality.”
“He can also play multiple roles in midfield and his versatility will be a massive asset for us,” said Miglarese. “I am really looking forward to coaching him.”
Gómez attended Tyler Junior College in Tyler, Texas for two years before transferring to the University of South Florida in Tampa, Florida. He will graduate in May 2019 with a degree in Communications. During his freshman year, he helped the TJC men’s soccer team clinch the National Championship title. He also made the All-American team his freshman and sophomore years. Senior year, he made both the preseason and postseason All-Conference teams.
While playing for Myrtle Beach Mutiny, he made the All-Eastern conference team and was in the top 11 ranking for League Two in 2017.
“I played against Tormenta FC in the PDL, and they’ve always had a well-established team,” Gómez said.“I’m ready to be a part of it now and try to contribute in any way possible to bring nothing but success,” Gómez said.
