Michael Mecham Returns to Tormenta FC for 2019 USL League One Team
South Georgia Tormenta FC is pleased to announce the signing of defender Michael Mecham for the 2019 USL League One season, pending league and federation approval. He was pivotal for Tormenta’s success in 2018, but his season was cut short due to an ACL injury that required surgery. He is currently working hard and on the road to recovery to be fully healed for the club’s first professional season.
In 2016, the 6’0, 180-pound player began his professional career in the USL with the Wilmington Hammerheads in 2016, bringing professional experience to the Tormenta FC roster.
“Michael brings experience and composure to our back line,” Miglarese said. “His time in the USL and his leadership qualities will help solidify our team culture. His resilience to bounce back from injury and his hunger to succeed make him a very important signing for us as we grow the team.”
Mecham attended the University of North Carolina at Wilmington and graduated in May 2016 with a chemistry degree. While playing for the Seahawks, he was a 4-year starter and team captain in 2015. Mecham also helped the Seahawks win a CAA Conference Championship in 2014.
“I’m excited to get back down to Statesboro and get to work with Tormenta,” Mecham said. “It’s an honor to continue to be a part of this organization as it transitions into a USL League One club. I can’t say enough about Darin and Netra and I want to thank them, along with the rest of the ownership group and coach Miglarese for giving me this opportunity.”
