South Georgia Tormenta FC Signs Irish Forward Mikie Rowe
South Georgia Tormenta FC signed Irish forward Mikie Rowe to its 2019 USL League One team, pending league and federation approval.
In 2018, Rowe was crucial for Tormenta FC’s Deep South Division championship title. He then went on to dominate his senior season at Young Harris College in Georgia, where he was named National Player of the Year for NCAA Division II.
“Mikie played with our USL League Two team for two seasons and is a valued contributor on and off the field,” USL League One head coach John Miglarese said. “We have had plenty of time to make our minds up about signing him, and I am so happy we finally get to announce it.”
“He is a natural goal scorer and can play anywhere in the front four. What he accomplished at Young Harris this past season is a testament to his development as a player,” Miglarese said.
Rowe graduated from Young Harris College in December 2018 with a major in Business Management and minor in Sport Studies. He captained the men’s soccer team his senior year and went on to score 22 goals and had 5 assists.
The forward received numerous awards throughout his senior year, including NSCAA National Player of the Week, Peach Belt Conference Player of the Year, NCAA DII All-Southeast Region First Team, United Soccer Coaches Men’s Scholar-Athlete of the Year and NCAA DII National Player of the Year.
Before moving to the United States for college, Rowe also played for Waterford FC in Waterford, Ireland.
“I am delighted to sign my first professional contract with such a special club,” Rowe said. “The sacrifices my family has made during my career and the past 4 years, in particular, have been rewarded, and there is no better feeling than that.”
Rowe can always count on his family to cheer him on every game, watching in the early morning hours from Ireland. His young twin brothers especially are excited about this player announcement. The twins are often seen sporting their own Tormenta FC jerseys, practicing to be professional soccer players themselves. Their mother Georgina Rowe commented, “Mikie has wanted to be a professional footballer from the time he could walk, and it’s been a long but rewarding journey. Dreams really do come true!”
Rowe is the 16th player to sign with Tormenta FC’s 2019 USL League One team. Other signees include Conner Antley, Jad Arslan, Micah Bledsoe, Lucas Coutinho, Charlie Dennis, Lars Eckenrode, Ricardo Gómez, Pablo Jara, Michael Mecham, Michael O’Sullivan, Dalton Pando, Joshua Phelps, Jerry Saint-Vil, Nick Wells and Nil Vinyals.
