Italian Midfielder Marco Micaletto Signs with Tormenta FC
Italian midfielder Marco Micaletto has signed with South Georgia Tormenta FC’s USL League One team, pending league and federation approval. As a starting midfielder for Tormenta’s 2018 League Two team, the Rome native helped the team clinch the Deep South Division championships, scoring 4 goals and completing 2 assists throughout the season.
“Marco is a player that is perfectly suited to what we are trying to build at Tormenta,” USL League One head coach John Miglarese said. “He had a fantastic PDL season with us this past summer.”
“He brings mobility, creativity and a lot of energy to our midfield,” Miglarese said. “I am delighted to have signed him.”
Micaletto graduated in 2017 from Young Harris College with a degree in Business Communications and a minor in Spanish. The midfielder is currently completing his Masters in Sport Coaching at the University of Akron. He was captain for the Young Harris men’s soccer team and played on its NCAA Division II Peach Belt Conference Championship team in 2015. After joining Akron University, Micaletto helped the Zips win the Mid-American Conference Tournament Championships in 2018. The Akron Zips were also a Division I College Cup Finalist that year.
Micaletto also played for Reading United AC in Reading, Pennsylvania in 2017. Before moving to the United States for college, he grew up playing for Brentford FC’s academy in Brentford, Greater London, England.
“Growing up in Italy, every boys dream is to become a professional soccer player,” Micaletto said. “Tormenta showed me trust from day one, and they will forever be the team that made my dream come true.”
“I’m blessed to be able to represent Tormenta on the field and to play for the Van Tassell’s, Coach Miglarese, the staff and the South Georgia community,” Micaletto said. “I feel attached to this club, and I’m lucky to play for an organization that I also support. For a rookie going into his first year as a pro, it doesn’t get any better than this.”
Micaletto is the 19th player to sign with Tormenta FC’s 2019 USL League One team. Other signees include Conner Antley, Jad Arslan, Micah Bledsoe, Lucas Coutinho, Charlie Dennis, Lars Eckenrode, Ricardo Gomez, Christopher Hellmann, Pablo Jara, Michael Mecham, Michael O’Sullivan, Dalton Pando, Peter Pearson, Joshua Phelps, Mikie Rowe, Jerry Saint-Vil, Nick Wells and Nil Vinyals.
