Tormenta FC Acquires Alex Morrell from Tampa Bay Rowdies
South Georgia Tormenta FC is pleased to announce the signing of forward Alex Morrell to its USL League One team, pending league and federation approval. The Lakeland, Florida native spent his past two seasons playing professionally for the Tampa Bay Rowdies, totalling 35 appearances with 3 goals and 3 assists.
“Alex is a top class player with experience at the professional level,” USL League One head coach John Miglarese said. “His pace, 1v1 ability and creativity will allow us to be more of a threat going forward.”
“He is very hungry and will surely add to the competitive dynamic to our team,” Miglarese said.
Morrell graduated from the University of North Florida in 2016 with a degree in Sport Management. Throughout his university career, Morrell achieved 10 goals and 19 assists in 63 appearances. He led his university team to win the Atlantic Sun Conference All-Tournament Championships in 2015.
The forward appeared on the NSCAA All-Region team twice and received All-Conference honors three times. In 2016, Morrell became the first UNF player in history to be drafted in the MLS SuperDraft. He was selected 22nd overall by the Chicago Fire.
Before signing with the Tampa Bay Rowdies in 2017, Morrell played for the Chicago Fire in the MLS, and VSI Tampa Bay and Orlando City B in the PDL.
“I can’t wait to join the Tormenta FC staff and my teammates to begin working on what’s going to be a great organization,” Morrell said. “I fully believe that we are going to have all the tools for success.
“I want to help build this team and do the best that I can,” Morrell said. “This year is going to be fun!”
Morrell is the 20th player to sign with Tormenta FC’s 2019 USL League One team. Other signees include Conner Antley, Jad Arslan, Micah Bledsoe, Lucas Coutinho, Charlie Dennis, Lars Eckenrode, Ricardo Gomez, Christopher Hellmann, Pablo Jara, Michael Mecham, Marco Micaletto, Michael O’Sullivan, Dalton Pando, Peter Pearson, Joshua Phelps, Mikie Rowe, Jerry Saint-Vil, Nick Wells and Nil Vinyals.
