Tormenta FC Adds Four Players to Roster Ahead of 2019 Season
With its USL League One home opener less than two weeks away, South Georgia Tormenta FC has signed defender Yaw Amankwa, forward Kaleb Jackson, defender Daltyn Knutson and goalkeeper Matias Reynares, pending league and federation approval.
Defender Yaw Amankwa played for the U-14,U-15 and U-17 U.S. Youth National teams growing up and played for League Two team Myrtle Beach Mutiny in 2018. Amankwa graduated from Ohio State University in 2019 with a degree in Sports Management. While playing for Ohio State’s men’s soccer team, he made First Team All-American and All-Tournament Team.
“Yaw is a physically strong player who can play multiple roles,” USL League One head coach John Miglarese said. “He has a lot of potential, and I am excited to have him here.”
Kaleb Jackson was team captain for the Rockhurst University men’s soccer team where he helped the team appear in the Final Four three times. Jackson also made the All-GLVC Team three times, All-Midwest Region twice and All-American twice while being named GLVC Offensive Player of the Year back to back. In 2017, the forward played for AFC Ann Arbor in the NPSL.
“Kaleb is a bright, young attacking player who can run behind or hold up play,” Miglarese said. “He has a fantastic engine and just needs a chance to prove himself.”
Daltyn Knutson has experience with three USL League Two teams: GPS Portland Phoenix, Houston FC and Derby City Rovers. Knutson majored in Finance with a minor in Marketing at University of Central Arkansas. The defender holds the University of Central Arkansas men’s soccer record for most minutes played. There, he made All-Region Third Team, the Missouri Valley Conference First Team and was named MVC Tournament Most Valuable Player in 2018.
“Daltyn is an intelligent back who can play multiple roles in our back line,” Miglarese said. “He has learned quickly and has proven to be a very important signing.”
Argentinian goalkeeper Matias Reynares signed his first contract at age 17 with the Fort Lauderdale Strikers, a NASL club. Reynares then went on to spend two seasons with USL Championship team North Carolina FC and then sign with the Tampa Bay Rowdies in 2018.
“With an injury to one of our goalkeepers early in preseason, we had to look for a top goalkeeper,” Miglarese said. “I believe we found one in Matias. He is young, but has a bright future in the game and at Tormenta FC.”
Other 2019 Tormenta FC signees include Conner Antley, Jad Arslan, Micah Bledsoe, Lucas Coutinho, Charlie Dennis, Lars Eckenrode, Ricardo Gomez, Christopher Hellmann, Pablo Jara, Michael Mecham, Marco Micaletto, Alex Morrell, Michael O’Sullivan, Dalton Pando, Peter Pearson, Joshua Phelps, Mikie Rowe, Jerry Saint-Vil, Mitch Thorn, Nick Wells and Nil Vinyals.
