South Georgia Tormenta FC Shuts Out Greenville Triumph SC 1-0
Makes History with First Ever USL League One Win
It was a successful night in Statesboro, Georgia for Tormenta FC as they defeated Greenville Triumph SC 1-0. Not only was this Tormenta’s first professional win, but it was also the first win in USL League One History. The first half ended 0-0, but a goal by forward Alex Morrell in the second half, assisted by Marco Micaletto, put the club on top for the rest of the match.
“I want to give credit to Greenville and Coach Harkes,” Tormenta FC head coach John Miglarese said. “We had ahead of us big task tonight, and we struggled a lot against them, but came through in the end.”
In addition to the big win, the inaugural game was also a sellout with a total of 3,519 fans in Erk Russell Park.
“It means the world to us all to know how much the community backs us, how much people care about this club, and we care about you guys just as much,” Micaletto said. “When Alex smashed the ball into the back of the net and the whole place blew off, it was an unbelievable moment.”
On Wednesday, April 3rd, Tormenta FC will host its second home game against FC Tucson in Erk Russell Park. Kickoff is at 8 pm.
Looking forward to the rest of the season, Morrell commented, “I’m looking forward to doing that every single game, I want to win.”
