Tormenta FC 2 Adds Four More Players to 2019 Roster
South Georgia Tormenta FC 2 has signed midfielder Cadu Cusatis, forward Luca Mayr, defender Zeron Sewell and defender Curtis Thorn to its 2019 USL League Two team, pending league and federation approval.
Cadu Cusatis comes back to Tormenta FC’s League Two team for the second year in a row. Last year, Cusatis helped Tormenta win the Deep South Division and have an undefeated regular season. Born in São Paulo, Brazil, Cusatis played for Red Bull Brasil’s U15 and U17 teams. The winger graduates from Palm Beach Atlantic University in 2020 with a Human Performance and Sport major. In 2018, the PBA men’s soccer team won the Sunshine State Conference and a Sunshine State Tournament title. “I chose to go back to Tormenta FC because I know I will be in a competitive environment which will help my development a lot,” Cusatis said.
“Cadu returns to us having made an impact for Tormenta last summer,” Tormenta FC League Two head coach Ian Cameron said. “We have watched him develop further within the excellent Palm Beach Atlantic program over the last year and we look forward to bringing his skills back to Statesboro.”
Austrian forward Luca Mayr played for both the U16 and U18 Austrian National Teams. Mayr also played for SV Reid in the Austrian Football Bundesliga where he scored and assisted a goal in a friendly against Champions League side Galatasaray Istanbul. The forward represented his country in 2013 UEFA U-17 Championship in Slovakia and the FIFA U-17 World Cup. Mayr will graduate from the University of South Carolina in December 2019 with a finance degree. “I think Tormenta is a great place to play with some of the best collegiate players in the country,” Mayr said.
“Luca is a player our organization has tracked for a couple of years, and we’re excited to have him in our environment this summer to develop,” Cameron said. “He has great attacking qualities and will make his mark on League Two this summer.”
At six-foot-two and two hundred pounds, center back Zeron Sewell hails from St. Thomas, Jamaica. Sewell attends Virginia Commonwealth University and will graduate in 2021 with a Sociology degree and Business minor. The Jamaican spent his past two summers playing for Portland Timbers U23 in USL League Two. “It’s an honor and privilege to sign for Tormenta FC League Two team,” Sewell said. “I’m extremely grateful for the opportunity to represent such a great club. I chose Tormenta because they’re an amazing group of people and can help me develop as a player and as an individual to achieve my goal of playing professional soccer.”
“Zeron joins us from VCU where he has been a pivotal piece of their back line,” Cameron said. “He has the athletic prerequisites for the pro game, and we’re excited that he has chosen to invest his time with us this summer.”
English defender Curtis Thorn is working on his masters in Business Administration at Nova Southeastern University. He attended Solent University in England where he was named Player of the Year twice. Last summer, Thorn played in the NPSL with the New Orleans Jesters and won MVP for the team. Growing up, the defender trialed for several English clubs like Chelsea FC, Southampton FC, Reading FC, and Portsmouth FC. He also played for Fulham FC for three years. “The reason I chose Tormenta over other teams that were interested is due to the fact that the staff trust, respect, and nurture their talent and progress them onto better things,” Thorn said. “My objective is to represent Tormenta 2 and win championships. Then next year, hopefully, have the chance to compete for a place in the professional team.”
“Curtis thrived in NPSL last summer and with an exciting Nova team this past year,” Cameron said. “He possesses leadership qualities and the versatility to play at both center back and right back. He will be a big asset as the summer develops.”
Other Tormenta 2 signees include JJ Donnelly, Juan Pablo Puelma, Jordan Skelton and Christian Lue Young. Tormenta FC 2 will host League One team, Chattanooga Red Wolves SC, for Round One of the US Open Cup on May 7 at 8 pm in Erk Russell Park. The team’s first regular season match is against Peachtree City MOBA on May 11 at home at 8 pm.
