STATESBORO, Ga. – As Tormenta FC travels to face Greenville Triumph SC for Round One of the US Open Cup, the team has signed a familiar face to its roster. Tormenta FC Academy player Tristan DeLoach has made history as the first youth player to sign professionally with the club’s USL League One team. DeLoach isn’t far from seeing professional play as he is set to dress in the eighteen for the Open Cup match today in Greenville.
“The signing of Tristan is a huge success for soccer in our region,” Brad Nein, Director of Soccer at Tormenta FC Academy said. “This is a fantastic opportunity for one of our youth players, and for future Academy participants to have a true pathway to a higher level of play. Tristan has an incredibly bright future, and we look forward to seeing him take part in a challenging environment that promotes continued growth and development.”
DeLoach is a current sophomore at Benedictine High School in Savannah. The signee is a center midfielder and has played for Tormenta FC Academy for the past two years. His speed and technical skills on the ball, along with his hard-working mindset are just a few traits that attracted League One coaches.
“Tormenta FC has created a proven path to pro for our Academy players, and Tristan is the first of many Tormenta youth players that will reach the professional ranks,” Tormenta FC President Darin Van Tassell said.
Tormenta FC opens up its US Open Cup run against Greenville Triumph SC tonight at 7 pm. Tormenta FC and Greenville have already faced off once in the inaugural USL League One match on March 29th which ended in a 1-0 win for Tormenta. The club then continues its regular season on Sunday, May 12 at home against Toronto FC II.
