Tormenta FC Topples Toronto FC II 3-2 in Stoppage Time
Charlie Dennis Scores the Club’s Second Brace of the Weekend
Tormenta FC’s fast-paced match against Toronto FC II kept everyone on the edge of their seats tonight in Erk Russell Park. There was much give and take between the teams, but Tormenta came out on top with a score of 3-2, with Charlie Dennis scoring the game-winner and his second goal of the night in stoppage time.
“I felt we played exceptionally well tonight,” Head Coach John Miglarese said. “We made two mistakes in the first half that Toronto capitalized on, but we tied it off in the second half and then turned the game around in stoppage time. It was a great performance by both teams.”
The match began in Toronto’s favor when the team took advantage of the Tormenta boy’s confusion over what they thought to be a foul, pushing a quick counter-attack to the home side of the field. Tormenta FC defense couldn’t track back quickly enough, and Toronto’s Perruzza scored the first goal of the night in the fifteenth minute. Charlie Dennis then responded with a goal set up by Alex Morrell, tying up the game in the twenty-eighth. The match continued to be give and take in the thirty-sixth as Toronto’s Bunk-Andersen finds the back of the net after a corner kick.
In the second half, the pace picked up in more ways than one. After a penalty by Toronto inside the box, Micaletto tied up the match once again with a shot to the bottom right corner, bringing the score to 2-2. Less than a minute after, Terique Mohammed is shown a red card, putting Toronto at only ten men on-field for the rest of the match.
With only two minutes of stoppage time left, Dennis scored once again, finishing the match off with a win for Tormenta and a score of 3-2. This was the second brace for the club this weekend as Tormenta 2’s Luca Mayr scored two out of three goals last night against Peachtree City MOBA.
“It’s been a long time coming,” said Dennis about scoring his first two goals of the season. “I started getting the shots in early and luckily two found their way in and one in the first half. We hadn’t scored in the first half yet until tonight, so it felt really good.”
Tormenta FC now travels to Wisconsin on May 18 to play Forward Madison FC for the first time this season. The team comes back home the following weekend for a match versus Lansing Ignite FC on May 25.
