Tormenta FC Goes Down to Nashville SC 3-2 in the Open Cup
Tormenta FC 2 wasn’t going down without a fight tonight in Round Two of the US Open Cup against USL Championship team Nashville SC. With two matches under their belt and less than two weeks training, Tormenta 2’s front line posed many problems for the home team, recording ten total shots to Nashville’s seven. Despite the team’s admirable performance, the match ended in Nashville’s favor with a score of 3-2.
The League Two team started making runs and shots early on with no avail until German midfielder Adrian Billhardt finally pushed through and stole away Nashville’s clean sheet in the 43rd as Billhardt nutmegged the home keeper.
Tormenta 2 continued to wreak havoc throughout the second half, and a corner kick in the 68th led to a header scored by James Meehan and assisted by captain Jordan Skelton. In the 93rd minute, the Tormenta boys vied to tie up the score with a corner kick, but the ball just missed its destination, and the match ended 3-2. Nashville SC will now go on to the 3rd round of the US Open Cup to face the winner of the Charleston Battery vs. Greenville Triumph SC match tomorrow evening.
Tormenta FC 2 turns its focus to defending its 2018 division title and heads back home for its second regular season match on May 20 against Discoveries SC.
