Match Preview: Southern Conference Semifinal
From Final to Final
Last Saturday, the Tormenta FC 2 boys played their final game of the regular season. They knew they would have to play their hearts out the whole match, in order to win the game, and win the Deep South Division title. However, the road to victory didn’t end there. After winning the title, Tormenta FC 2 couldn’t be satisfied with just winning Deep South Division title, they also needed to become the champions of the Southern Conference.
After making it to the finals, Tormenta FC 2 needs to win their next match against Villages SC to continue their route to victory. The semi-finals will be tomorrow, July 19 at 5 p.m. in Columbia, South Carolina against Villages SC. “Columbia and Villages” are both words that bring back sweet and bitter memories for the boys. Sweet because this season Tormenta FC 2 played two games against SC United Bantams in the same stadium with two great wins. With a score of 0-2 in the first match and a 0-1, last Saturday Tormenta FC 2 were announced as the champions of the Deep South Division. This game will be a bittersweet one for Tormenta FC 2 considering they played the Villages SC in the same round of playoffs last year and were defeated. 364 days later, we are hungry for revenge.
What to Watch For:
Face to Face: Tormenta FC 2 will be up against two teams that have led in their respective divisions throughout the season. Tormenta FC 2 has been defeated twice while Villages SC has only been defeated once in their first league match on May 18th. Both teams have an average of more than two goals per game, so it is easy to say that some goals will be scored in this upcoming match. However, this match will not be an easy one considering Tormenta FC 2’s 11 goals and 9 clean sheets compared to Villages SC’s 13 goals and 5 clean sheets.
Luca Mayr: This is not the first time we have talked about Austrian player Luca Mayr in Statesboro. The undisputed midfielder of Tormenta FC, Luca Mayr, has shown match after match that he possesses great quality in the center of the field with his total of 3 assists this season. Without a doubt, Mayr is owner of the centre of the field and also stands as the team’s top scorer with a total of 6 impressive goals. Clearly, he will be one of the main contenders of the match.
The Best of the Villages SC: If there are two players that stand out from this team, they are Leonardo Paiva (#23 forward) and Eduardo Gomes (#5 defender). Paiva, a 24-year-old Brazilian player, has been the team’s top scorer with a total of 7 goals within 12 games. But that’s not all, Paiva has also made a total of 7 assists as well (i.e. he averages one goal or one assist per game). Gomes, who is also Brazilian, is a 31 year-old experienced defender. He has very solid defensive skills but he is also very dangerous with attacks, with a score of 5 goals in the past 11 games he has played this season.
