STATESBORO, Ga. – South Georgia Tormenta FC meets Orlando City B for the second time this season on Friday, Aug. 28, this time on the road. Tormenta FC played to an exciting 2-1 win against Chattanooga Red Wolves SC on Saturday, bringing Tormenta FC up to fifth in the USL League One standings. The boys look to bring home all three points tomorrow to continue this upward momentum.
“After the big 4-0 loss, we had an honest talk with the whole team and the coaching staff,” TFC midfielder Luca Mayr said. “We said that we need to improve ourselves in practice. We need to compete out there, and I think we did that, and it showed on Saturday against Chattanooga. That’s why we got the win. We never gave up. We came back with two goals, and it's definitely a good feeling after.”
In their last meeting, Tormenta FC dominated Orlando City B in a 2-0 win at Erk Russell Park. Nil Vinyals was named USL League One Player of the Week after scoring a brace to help Tormenta FC secure its first win of the 2020 season. Orlando City B comes into tomorrow’s match with two losses versus FC Tucson and Forward Madison and will be looking for a win on their home turf.
“I think Orlando hasn’t had a good run of results, which makes them dangerous because they are due for a good game,” TFC Head Coach John Miglarese said. “We have to take care of business. We have to go there with a good mentality and a good performance if we want to have a chance at three points.”
Tormenta FC had several standout performances against Chattanooga on Saturday with both Marco Micaletto and Pablo Jara appearing on Team of the Week. Luca Mayr also caused a stir with his first professional goal, a stunning game-winner from well outside the box. The team needs to continue these strong performances as it goes into Friday’s match and the rest of the season.
“I think if we just do our job and continue what we did on Saturday, then there's no reason not to come home with three points,” Mayr said.
