STATESBORO, Ga. – South Georgia Tormenta FC is excited to announce the signing of English defender Curtis Thorn to its 2020 USL League One roster. Thorn is eligible to play starting this Friday against Orlando City B.
To complete the signing, the club has acquired an additional international spot from Forward Madison FC. Per club policy, the terms of the transaction with Madison were not disclosed.
“Curtis is another top player we’ve plucked from our USL League Two environment,” TFC Head Coach John Miglarese said. “He performed exceptionally well during the 2019 season and was due to play for Tormenta FC 2 this summer, but COVID-19 got in the way. He has trained with us all summer and has shown he is more than ready for the jump to USL League One. I expect him to feature regularly over the coming months.”
The 6-foot-1-inch, 176-pound defender was a staple in Tormenta FC 2’s defense last season with nine clean sheets during the regular season, while helping the team clinch its second Deep South Division title and its first Southern Conference title. On the offensive side, Thorn recorded one assist and seven shots in 16 games played.

“I’m absolutely thrilled to sign my first professional deal,” Thorn said. “I honestly can’t think of a better group of lads to start my journey with.”
Thorn is completing a Master's degree in Business Administration at Nova Southeastern University and will graduate in December. As an undergraduate, he attended Solent University in England, where he earned Player of the Year twice. In 2018, Thorn played in the NPSL with the New Orleans Jesters and was named Most Valuable Player.
Thorn will join Tormenta FC as it faces Orlando City B on the road this Friday at 7 p.m. and looks to continue its winning momentum. Fans can watch every game of the 2020 League One season from the comfort of your own home via ESPN+ domestically and YouTube internationally. For fans that do not have access to the ESPN family of networks, Tormenta FC has teamed up with a number of Watch Party Partners across South Georgia and the Lowcountry of South Carolina, where fans can cheer on the club.
