FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – South Georgia Tormenta FC defeated Fort Lauderdale CF 2-1 on the road tonight at Inter Miami CF stadium. Ian Cameron recorded his first professional win as Head Coach, while Curtis Thorn scored his first professional goal and notched his first assist.
Tormenta FC’s first chance came quickly tonight as Jad Arslan took a shot from outside the box in the first minute. Luca Mayr then followed up two minutes later with a shot that went too high, assisted by Curtis Thorn. Fort Lauderdale CF then got on the scoreboard in the 5th minute.
Marco Micaletto sent a cross to Thorn in the 19th minute who then equalized the match with his first professional goal, putting the score at 1-1.
Tormenta FC had a strong offensive first half, recording ten total shots and multiple close chances from Arslan and Mayr, along with Micaletto’s shot on goal in the 14th minute.
Mayr put Torment FC in the lead in the 62nd with a header, assisted by Thorn. With a goal and assist this match, Thorn’s stellar performance tonight earned him the Man of the Match title. The English right-back also created two chances, made five tackles and four clearances while completing 80 percent of his passes.
Fort Lauderdale CF had several opportunities to tie up the game in the final minutes, but Tormenta FC’s Pablo Jara stood strong, making several big stops and 11 saves total.
Tormenta FC gets another chance to defeat Union Omaha on Saturday, October 3, this time on the road at Werner Park. The team then returns home to face FC Tucson on Wednesday, October 7 in Erk Russell Park. A portion of each ticket for this match will be donated back to the American Red Cross.
