The end of the 2020 season marks a pivotal milestone for South Georgia Tormenta FC – five years completed as a club. Five years of thrilling home matches, title-winning seasons and Twitter-breaking goals. Looking back, there is so much to celebrate, and we plan to highlight these victories and achievements, big and small, over the course of this offseason as we prepare for 2021.
In this Q&A, Tormenta Nation will hear from Keith Brown, co-founder of the club's supporters' group, Category 5, and owner of local business Galactic Comics and Games. As a lifelong soccer enthusiast, Brown was ecstatic to hear that he'd finally have a local club to cheer on and has been a diehard Tormenta FC fan ever since.

It was a mix of being dumbfounded and ecstatic. A PDL (now USL League Two) team in Statesboro seemed crazy luck for a soccer fan.

I've been a soccer fan for years. The chance to support and follow a local team was a dream come true. I've traveled to many soccer games, be it the U.S. national teams, MLS, Tottenham Hotspurs, Bayern and more. Now, I have my team to support and travel to cheer on. There is a massive difference between being a fan of my local team and being a fan of my MLS team. As a fan, there is something special when a player from Tormenta calls you by name. There is a connection with my team that not many get to experience especially with the top tier of professional sports.

Tormenta FC has developed a family feel to the entire franchise.

Being a member of Cat 5 brings camaraderie amongst fellow fans. The Cat 5 supporters group is truly inviting. Everyone is welcome, no experience is required. You are not even required to understand the "offside" rule, just love for soccer, your fellow fans, and of course Tormenta FC.

In June of 2017, I had a chance to travel on the team bus to Myrtle Beach for the match against the Mutiny. Tormenta had stumbled a little at the beginning of the season and had just had their first win two weeks prior. It was a pivotal time of the season as Tormenta took a draw on the road from the eventual winners of the South Atlantic Division. From that game, Tormenta went 6-1-1 for the remainder of the season and picked up an invite for the 2018 US Open Cup. There was something special about traveling with my team. Through thick or thin, ups and downs, I would cheer on Tormenta home and away.

The growth has been amazing! From Tormenta qualifying for the U.S. Open Cup for the first time to being part of the inaugural USL League One, while still keeping a USL League Two team, and announcing a new stadium, to adding a third team for 2021 with the Inaugural USL Academy League.
Just this month, Tormenta FC had one of their former players, Nico Rittmeyer, be the first to receive a full national team call-up with the Guatemalan Men's National Team. All this and Tormenta still has not lost the "our-team" feel and approachability.

The stadium has to be the most exciting followed by the USL Academy League formation. Looking forward to the future and all that it brings for the Tormenta family.
