STATESBORO, Ga. – South Georgia Tormenta FC has signed defender Sergi Nus ahead of its 2021 USL League One season, pending league and federation approval. The Spanish centerback has signed a one-year deal with a club option, his first professional contract. Originally set to play for Tormenta FC 2 in 2020, Nus was invited to train with the first team and impressed the coaching staff throughout the summer.
“Sergi is an intelligent young man who reads the game very well from center back,” TFC Head Coach Ian Cameron said. “He's played at a very high level in college and brings a different skill set than the centerback profiles we've had here at Tormenta for the past couple of seasons. We’re excited to see the new options Sergi provides and to help develop his game for the professional level.”

Before joining Tormenta FC for training, Nus went on trial with Kauno Zalgiris FC in Lithuania. In 2019, he trained with USL Championship’s North Carolina FC while competing for their U23 squad. The defender also has experience with former USL League Two club Fresno Fuego FC and appeared on League Two’s All-League First Team in 2017.
In three seasons with the University of Virginia, Nus recorded nine goals, one assist and started every match of 2016 and 2017 before sitting out due to an injury in 2018. He then played one season at Duke University in 2019 and led them to three shutouts in 839 minutes and 11 matches played.
