STATESBORO, Ga. – South Georgia Tormenta FC announced on Monday following USL League One’s Board of Governors meeting that the 2021 regular season will begin on or about May 8 and will feature a 28-game slate running through October and culminating in a six-team playoff to take place in November.
"Last year we were grateful to get a season in and the choice of format seemed irrelevant in comparison,” TFC Head Coach Ian Cameron. “As we enter the 2021 campaign, I'm sure all the coaching staffs across the league will embrace returning to a fuller schedule over a longer period.
“We're excited to enter our first full campaign as a staff and putting in place all the tools we think we'll need along the way. The decision to have 6 teams make playoffs could make for a ferocious end to the season as you could see almost every team having something tangible to play for deep into the year, and that excites us."
In voting for a flexible start date, the Governors have approved for clubs to begin play as early as April 10 depending on conditions in their local communities. Further details and scheduling announcements will be made in the coming months and the league will continue to monitor the ongoing COVID-19 crisis in the event that alterations to the format need to be made.
Fans can get ready for the 2021 USL League One season with TFC Season tickets which are on sale now with affordable 12-month payment plans and an array of perks. The club also has quarter and half-season plans available for those new to Tormenta Nation.
