STATESBORO, Ga. – In a lively match at Erk Russell Park tonight, South Georgia Tormenta FC 2 bested the Southern Soccer Academy Kings 3-1 to open its 2021 USL League Two regular season with a bang.
The SSA Kings got on the board first in the 10th minute, and TFC 2 responded less than two minutes later. Daniel Strachan evened the score with a header from a Gabriel Cabral corner kick, recording Tormenta FC 2’s first goal of the 2021 season.
TFC 2 looked strong offensively throughout the first half and spent a majority of the time in the opposing half, pushing for a game-winning goal. In the 36th minute, Rodney Michael hit in an incredible volley off a beautiful cross by Cabral to double Tormenta 2’s score to 2-1.
Michael then secured his brace in the 45th minute, slotting a shot low past the keeper to solidify TFC 2’s home opening three-goal lead.
Tonight’s Man of the Match, presented by Galactic Comics and Games, is Michael, who scored the first brace of the TFC 2 season and impressed the coaches with his work rate up top.
Tormenta FC 2 turns around to host Asheville City SC this Friday, May 14, at 7 p.m. ET and looks to carry its winning momentum into its second home match. Due to limited capacity, the club urges all fans to purchase their tickets, including season tickets, half-season plans or quarter-season plans, in advance. Tormenta FC encourages fans to wear masks until the vaccine becomes more widely available.
