STATESBORO, Ga. – South Georgia Tormenta FC has added Drew DeJohn as the Director of High Performance and Academy Sports Science to the Academy staff, beginning this season.
DeJohn joins the club with extensive Strength and Conditioning and Sports Science experience at the youth, collegiate and professional level. For the past two and half seasons, he has worked as a Sports Scientist with Tormenta FC's USL League One team, USL League Two team and the Georgia Southern University Men's Soccer team. He also coached within the Tormenta FC Aademy system for the past two years.
"In having the role of Director of High Performance and Sports Science for the Academy, I want to begin incorporating training periodization models throughout the club, in order to best develop our players physically and mentally," DeJohn said. "Additionally, I plan to provide various strength and conditioning training camps and clinics devoted to improving our athletic ability as a club. From our youngest to our oldest age groups, there is no better time to begin working on these foundational skills that will provide necessary building blocks in order to excel at the next level."
Prior to joining Tormenta FC, he played four years of Division III soccer at SUNY Cortland, where he received a Bachelors in Exercise Science (2014). Following graduation, DeJohn was with the St. John Fisher College Men's Soccer program in Rochester, New York, working as an assistant coach and strength and conditioning specialist.
During his time as a Sports Scientist, he completed a Master's degree in Exercise Science from Georgia Southern University. He held a research position within the Human Performance Lab, focusing on applied sport physiology. He also holds his Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist Certification through the National Strength and Conditioning Association.
