STATESBORO, Ga. – South Georgia Tormenta FC has signed veteran midfielder Vincenzo Candela to its 2021 USL League One roster, pending league and federation approval. Candela played most recently for the New York Cosmos and appeared in 46 matches for the Charleston Battery in USL Championship, scoring one goal.
“I am ecstatic to be joining Tormenta FC and am grateful to the entire coaching staff and owners for the opportunity to be a part of this magnificent club,” Candela said. “Tormenta is a respected club that plays an attractive style of soccer, which I think is a great fit for me. The 2021 season is young and I can't wait to be able to contribute and help the team win games!”
Born in Bogotá, Colombia, Candela kicked off his professional career in Europe, appearing for several clubs, like Real Sport Clube in Portugal’s third division, Alemannia Aachen in Germany’s second division and K.A.S. Eupen in Belgium’s first division. The midfielder then moved back to his home country to play for Atlético Huila and Llaneros, both in the Colombian second division.
The talented midfielder joins the team ahead of its home match this Saturday, May 22, as the club faces regional rival Greenville Triumph SC in Erk Russell Park. Tormenta FC encourages masks to be worn per CDC guidance and urges fans to purchase their tickets, including season tickets, half-season plans or quarter-season plans, in advance.
