STATESBORO, Ga. – South Georgia Tormenta FC 2 defeated Dalton Red Wolves SC 1-0 tonight at Erk Russell Park, securing a clean sheet and staying undefeated at home fpr the 2021 USL League Two regular season.
The two Georgia sides started off slow as they felt each other out in the first 20 minutes of the match. Then, Tormenta FC 2 began to dial up the pressure with several chances from forwards Gabriel Rodriguez and Rodney Michael.
In the 30th minute, Tormenta FC 2 finally broke through with a goal by Rodriguez after pressure inside the box, bringing the score to 1-0. The goal was the Colombian forward’s second of the season.
In the 47th minute, TFC 2 goalkeeper Drew Romig stopped Dalton’s first shot on goal of the night. The Red Wolves continued to try and find the back of the net throughout the last 30 minutes but were unsuccessful due to the efforts of TFC 2’s backline.
Tonight’s Man of the Match, presented by Galactic Comics and Games, is midfielder Chris Heckenberg who controlled the midfield by shutting down the majority of Dalton’s offensive attacks and impressed the TFC 2 coaching staff.
Tormenta FC 2 turns around to host Peachtree City MOBA this Friday at 7 p.m. ET. The next day, the professional USL League One side takes on Forward Madison at home on Saturday, May 29, at 7 p.m. ET. Tormenta FC encourages fans to wear masks until the vaccine becomes more widely available.
