STATESBORO, Ga. – South Georgia Tormenta FC fought hard on the pitch tonight getting the first goal of the night but came up short in the second half to Forward Madison FC with a final score of 3-1 at Erk Russell Park.
Tormenta FC started the match off strong offensively, with Clayton Adams putting two shots on goal in the first half of the game. Tonight, Adams made first start of the season and Vincenzo Candela made his Tormenta FC debut.
In the 32nd minute, the home side scored the first goal of the night off a free kick by Luca Mayr-Fälten. Raheem Somersall used the momentum from the first goal, attempting to net a second one, but the shot was kicked wide by Madison.
The away side kicked off the second half with a goal straight out of the gate by Derek Gebhard. Not long after, Madison also scored a second goal in the 53rd minute. The TFC coaches switched up the lineup in the 67th minute, adding midfielder Ricardo Gomez and Colombian defender Luis Rodriguez, who made his Tormenta debut, to the field.
Tormenta FC continued to fight to get back onto the board, with Somersall recording a shot on goal, but Madison secured the result with another goal in the 82nd minute.
Tonight’s Man of the Match, presented by Galactic Comics and Games, is Luca Mayr-Fälten who scored tonight’s lone goal and created three chances. Defensively, the Austrian midfielder made three tackles and one clearance.
Tormenta FC kicks off at home once again on Saturday, June 5, at 8 p.m. ET against Chattanooga Red Wolves SC for the first time this season. June 5 is Pride Night at Erk Russell Park, and the club is partnering with Boro Pride, donating a portion of the match proceeds to the local organization. Tormenta FC encourages fans to wear masks per CDC guidance. Fans should purchase their tickets, including season tickets, half-season plans or quarter-season plans, in advance.
