STATESBORO, Ga. – South Georgia Tormenta FC Academy players showcased their talents at the 2021 USL Academy Cup, presented by Puma, in Hillsborough County Tournament SportsPlex in Tampa, Florida, on May 28-31, 2021. TFC Academy’s U-17 Girls team, U-17 Boys team and U-13 Boys team all competed against elite competition from across the country, with many players turning heads at the competition.
On Friday, the U-17 Boys faced off against Chattanooga Red Wolves SC, the U-17 Girls had a big win against Greenville Triumph SC, winning 2-0 with goals by Elise Holcey and Kayla Jackson, and lastly, the U-13 Boys faced off against Ironbound SC.
On Saturday, the U-17 Boys and U-17 Girls both played Southern Soccer Academy. The U-17 Boys tied the game 3-3 with Jaiden Middleton, Ezekiel Chappelear and John Michael Arteha all scoring. The U-13 Boys, meanwhile, faced off against Fort Lauderdale CF, with Osmar Martinez scoring one goal.
Sunday, the U-17 Boys played the Boston Bolts for an intense match, with Tormenta FC scoring one goal by Ezekiel Chappelear. The U-17 Girls played Tampa Bay United, while the U-13 Boys played a hard-fought match against Charlotte Independence, with two goals scored by Eder Chavelas and two goals scored by Martinez.
For the last day of the tournament, the U-13 Boys won their final game 2-0 against Weston FC, with Eder Chavales and Alejandro Carmona both scoring. The U-17 Girls had one goal by Amina Okuma against SC United Bantams, while the U-17 Boys team fought hard against Ironbound SC.
Committed to raising the level of soccer locally and across the country, Tormenta FC Academy has programs available from age two all the way up to age 19 and is the only youth academy in South Georgia and the Lowcountry of South Carolina with a path to the professional ranks. Over the years, TFC Academy has helped many talented players on their paths to higher levels of the game, whether it be Indiana Vassilev in the English Premier League with Aston Villa FC, Paolo Alcocer in the Bolivian Primera División with Club Bolívar or James Brighton, a rising talent in the collegiate ranks at Clemson University. In 2019, midfielder Tristan DeLoach became the first TFC Academy talent to sign a professional academy contract with the professional USL League One team, followed by his peers, midfielder Grant Hampton and goalkeeper Stephen O’Hearn in 2020 and Brittain Gottlieb and Tyler Bisseck in 2021.
