STATESBORO, Ga. – South Georgia Tormenta FC's USL Academy League team spent the weekend in Metro Atlanta with a match on Friday against Peachtree City MOBA and a match on Saturday against Southern Soccer Academy (SSA).
In the first game, Tormenta FC got off to a rough start but nearly completed a second-half comeback at MOBA stadium in Peachtree City, Georgia. The final score for the game was 3-2, with goals from Josh Elam and Renzo Andreucetti. Elam has gotten off to a great start this season notching three goals in three games.
The next day, the boys played a tough game against Southern Soccer Academy at Marathon Sports Park in Austell, Georgia. Unlike its previous game, Tormenta FC came out on fire, notching two early goals to put the team up 2-1 at half. The first goal was by Tyler Bisseck with an assist from Jaiden Middleton. The second was a valiant effort from Andreucetti, who finished his second goal of the weekend. Unfortunately, SSA’s consistent attack allowed them to earn their first win of the season, as they scored three unmatched goals, giving them the 4-2 win.
"We had many of adverse moments this weekend, which is good for our development," Tormenta FC's USL Academy League Head Coach Nick Jaramillo said. "Not the results we wanted for both matches, but as a group, we will keep pushing forward.”
Many players have caught the attention of the coaching staff since kicking off play in the new youth competition, and Jaramillo was sure to give Andreucetti credit for his great weekend.
"We have challenged Renzo by giving him the captain's armband," Jaramillo said. "He now has an extra responsibility in the group, and we want to see how he handles that. He has turned around and not only scored two goals in two games but has shown maturity in his performances."
The South Georgia team looks to bounce back in its first-ever home game, which will be at Benedictine Field on June 15 at 4:30 p.m. ET in a rematch against East Atlanta FC.
