STATESBORO, Ga. – The South Georgia Tormenta FC Academy team played its first-ever USL Academy League home game on Tuesday, playing East Atlanta FC to an exciting 2-2 tie at Benedictine Military School in Savannah, Georgia.
"We are quite proud of the players for their performance in the challenging environment they faced yesterday with the heat," Tormenta FC's USL Academy League Head Coach Nick Jaramillo said. "Playing against a completely different East Atlanta team – who were older and very athletic – the group grinded out the result. We had some great moments of football and showed well against tough competition."
Tormenta FC took an early lead via a great right-footed curler by Tyler Bisseck, who capitalized on an East Atlanta mistake in the back. South Georgia’s 1-0 lead lasted until halftime but not much longer than that, as three minutes into the second half, East Atlanta leveled the score.
In the 65th minute, though, Chase Cooke assisted Joshua Elam, who notched in his third goal of the 2021 USL Academy League season and gave Tormenta FC another one-goal lead. South Georgia could not hold onto the lead quite long enough, however, as East Atlanta found a goal in the 86th minute of the match to even the score once again.
The Tormenta FC Academy squad is back in action for its second home game of the season at 4:30 p.m. ET on June 19. The talented players will take on South Carolina United, which will be kicking off its first-ever USL Academy League game. The match will be played at The Clubhouse Fields in Statesboro, Georgia. Admittance to the Academy match is free.

The Man of the Match, presented by Galactic Comics & Games, went to captain Renzo Andreucetti. Andreucetti’s leadership has been extraordinary and has allowed Tormenta FC to stay calm and poised throughout its matches thus far in the USL Academy League's inaugural season. His distribution in the midfield has been exceptional as well, leading to plenty of goal-scoring opportunities.
