STATESBORO, Ga. – South Georgia Tormenta FC 2 took on the leaders of the USL League Two’s Deep South Division tonight, going down 2-3 to the SC United Bantams at Erk Russell Park despite its unrelenting offensive pressure throughout. An entertaining match throughout, the two sides scored four goals collectively in the last 15 minutes of the match, but the Bantams came out on top.
The two sides got comfortable in the first 20 minutes, but as the first half went on, Tormenta FC 2 began applying more pressure and controlling the ball more, looking to get a goal in before the first-half whistle. Alexis Ledoux led the squad with several near-goal shots, while also creating chances, relieving pressure and making defensive tackles and steals.
The Bantams had several honorable chances in the first half, but the home side defended well with a composed backline. Goalkeeper Drew Romig was also tested several times in the first stretch of the match and performed well with stops and saves.
In the 54th minute, Gabriel Cabral nearly scored a beauty, but South Carolina’s goalkeeper made a close save. Soon after, the away side got on the board first, followed by a second goal in the 80th minute.
Tormenta FC 2 responded well with a goal in the 87th minute, when Gabriel Rodriguez headed in the ball following a great cross into the box by Michael Horsnby. After numerous close chances throughout the match, Ledoux then finally scored a goal of his own in the 90th minute to tie up the score.
The Bantams, however, took the lead once again with an incredible free kick from distance, handing TFC 2 its third defeat of the League Two season.
