STATESBORO, Ga. – South Georgia Tormenta FC had an eventful match against Toronto FC II on the road tonight. Despite out-shooting and out-possessing the home team, Tormenta FC dropped points tonight versus Toronto with a final score of 1-3 in Osceola, Florida. Defender Stefan Mueller scored Tormenta FC’s lone goal tonight off an assist by Azaad Liadi.
Tonight, the multifaceted Australian Joshua Phelps passed club legend Jad Arslan for all-time appearances for Tormenta FC, totalling 81 all-time appearances across USL League One and USL League Two.
Tormenta FC dominated the first half from the get-go, recording 10 shots, three on goal to Toronto’s zero shots.
In the seventh minute, Marco Micaletto recorded Tormena FC’s first shot on goal of the night from a distance, but it went just over the net. Three minutes later, Luca Mayr-Fälten attempted to shoot from a difficult angle but was unable to get a tally on the board. Nick O’Callaghan and new signee Kristo Strickler also had great looks on goal tonight but were unable to capitalize on the chances.
Toronto FC II looked a different team in the second half and scored in the 61st minute off a free kick in a dangerous position, followed by a second goal several minutes later.
After conceding two goals, Liadi responded with an assist to Mueller in the 72nd minute to secure Tormenta FC’s lone goal of the night. In the 79th minute, Toronto caught goalkeeper Carlos Avilez off guard and solidified its three-goal lead.
In total, Tormenta FC recorded 17 shots and just over half of the possession but was unable to show that on the scoreboard.
