STATESBORO, Ga. – The South Georgia Tormenta FC Academy team played its first game in 12 days Sunday against an eager South Carolina United squad. SC United picked up the win with a last-minute goal, resulting in a 2-3 final score.
Goal-scoring has not been a problem for South Georgia’s talented attackers. Once again, we saw a goal from Renzo Andreucetti. Jaiden Middleton was also able to slide one past the keeper. It looked like the game was going to end in a draw, but Tormenta’s defense could not hold off a late attack from the Bantams.
"We say this is a game of margins, and that summed it up today," Tormenta FC's USL Academy League Head Coach Nick Jaramillo said. "We were very unfortunate with the result; however, it was the best we've looked to date. The character these players are showing has been spot on, and the development is showing as well. We're proud of this young group and continue to move forward and push our boundaries."
The Tormenta FC Academy squad will look to bounce back at home in a rematch versus Southern Soccer Academy on Wednesday, June 30, at 4 p.m. ET. The match will be played at The Clubhouse Fields in Statesboro, Georgia. Admittance to the USL Academy League match is free.
