STATESBORO, Ga. – South Georgia Tormenta FC 2 defeated Asheville City SC 3-0 tonight with goals by Jacob Evans and Gabriel Rodriguez, combined with an Asheville own goal. With this win, Tormenta 2 has clinched a spot in the 2021 USL League Two Playoffs for the third time in club history after claiming the Deep South Division in both 2018 and 2019 and being crowned Southern Conference champions in 2019.
TFC 2 controlled the match throughout, shutting down all of the home team’s chances. In the 28th minute, Asheville City conceded an own goal to put Tormenta on the board after Gabriel Cabral made a great pass over the backline to Gabriel Rodriguez. Several minutes later, Jacob Evans took advantage of a deflection and fired a shot past the keeper to double TFC 2’s lead.
TFC 2 continued to dominate in the second half, and in the 59th minute, Rodriguez found a loose ball in the box and shot it over the group and into the goal to bring the final score to 3-0.
With two matches left in the regular season, Tormenta FC 2 travels to Southern Soccer Academy on Tuesday, July 6, followed by Dalton Red Wolves on Friday, July 9. Tormenta FC’s USL League One squad hosts North Carolina FC tomorrow for Community Heroes Night, offering free admittance to the match for all first responders with ID and helping to boost local charities.
