STATESBORO, Ga. – South Georgia Tormenta FC 2 defeated the Southern Soccer Academy Kings 2-1 tonight at Marathon Park Soccer Complex.
Owen Green didn’t waste any time and netted a goal right away in the second minute to give Tormenta 2 a confident start to the match. TFC 2 was relentless tonight, creating chances and firing shots left and right. Gabriel Rodriguez, Michael Hornsby and Will Gillingham all attempted goals and applied pressure to the home side.
Just announced to the TFC 2 roster today, Hatta Barry also knocked on the door throughout the match, searching for a goal on his Tormenta debut. Barry notched his first shot in the fourth minute, almost catching the SSA keeper off guard and sneaking it past the far post.
The SSA Kings tied up the score in the 25th from a penalty in the box which just slipped past goalkeeper Drew Romig, bringing the score to 1-1.
Additionally, Tormenta 2 performed well defensively as Mo Redjeb came up huge to create pressure and deny a scoring opportunity after a misplaced pass gave SSA a clear view of the goal. Goalkeeper Drew Romig also had an admirable, making a Save of the Week worthy move to block a SSA free kick.
Finally in the 84th minute, Tormenta FC 2 solidified its win as Gabriel Cabral made a beautiful strike into the bottom left corner. After scoring the game-winning goal, Cabral was named Man of the Match, presented by Galactic Comics and Games.
The squad hits the road again to meet the Dalton Red Wolves on Friday, July 9 at 7:30 p.m. ET for their final regular season match of the 2021 USL League Two season. After clinching the playoffs, TFC 2 is ready to make its third playoff run in club history.
