STATESBORO, Ga. – South Georgia Tormenta FC 2 dominated Dalton Red Wolves 5-1 at Lakeshore Park tonight with an amazing total team performance to close out its regular season before heading into the 2021 USL League Two playoffs.
For the second match in a row, defender Owen Green scored an early goal, chipping the keeper in the 3rd minute. The Red Wolves then responded less than a minute later with their only goal of the night.
Forward Mikey Lawrence scored a brace in the first half for his first two goals of the 2021 season and earned himself tonight’s Man of the Match title, presented by Galactic Comics and Games.
After a three-goal first half, the second half was full of action as well. In the 53rd minute, one of Dalton’s men was sent off with a red card due to dissent, and the home side was forced to play the remainder of the match with 10 men.
Gabriel Cabral did what he does best in the 61st minute and scored a stunning free kick to solidify TFC 2’s lead. Finally, Adam Luckhurst scored a cherry on top penalty kick goal to bring the final score to 5-1.
After a year without USL League Two play, Tormenta FC 2 is eager to make its third playoff run in club history. Tormenta 2 is the reigning Southern Conference champion and hopes to repeat this in 2021. The squad heads to the Southern Conference Quarterfinals on Friday, June 16 with more details to be announced soon.
While the club’s second team battles for the USL League Two trophy, Tormenta FC’s USL League One side will play at home on Saturday, July 24 as they take on the Richmond Kickers for the second time this season.
