STATESBORO, Ga. – USL League Two announced today the details for the 2021 Southern Conference Quarterfinals and Semifinals this weekend. South Georgia Tormenta FC 2 will travel to Newport News, Virginia, to battle the 2019 USL League Two Franchise of the Year, Lionsbridge FC, at TowneBank Stadium on Saturday, July 17, at 7:30 p.m. ET.
The winner of TFC 2 vs. Lionsbridge FC will face the victor of The Villages SC vs. East Atlanta FC match on Sunday, July 18, to decide who will advance to the Southern Conference Final the following weekend. All matches will be streamed live on the Lionsbridge FC Facebook page.
Founded in 2018, Lionsbridge FC is already proving itself as a team to be reckoned with in USL League Two. TFC 2 Head Coach Tom Morris is a former Lionsbridge assistant coach and helped them to a 4-5-5 record their inaugural year. This regular season, Lionsbridge went 9-3-2 and finished second in the South Atlantic Division with 29 points, just two points behind North Carolina Fusion U23.
Tormenta FC 2’s defense will need to be vigilant on Saturday, as Lionsbridge has scored 37 goals this regular season. An attacker to watch out for is forward Charles Touche, who leads the Virginia side in both goals and assists with 10 and four, respectively. Lionsbridge is also a physical team and has received 29 yellow cards this season, compared to TFC 2’s seven cards.
A threat offensively itself, Tormenta 2 has recorded 25 goals and 119 shots this season. Defender Michael Hornsby is tied for second in the nation for assists with six and is a leading creator for TFC 2. Gabriel Rodriguez and Alexis Ledoux continue to lead the squad in goals with six and five, respectively.
Tormenta FC 2 is honored to make its third playoff run in club history. Tormenta 2 is the reigning Southern Conference champion and hopes to repeat this feat in 2021. While the club’s second team battles for the USL League Two trophy, Tormenta FC’s USL League One side will play at home on Saturday, July 24 as they take on the Richmond Kickers for the second time this season.
