STATESBORO, Ga. – In the final of four 2021 USL League One regular season matchups between the two sides, South Georgia Tormenta FC won the series against Greenville Triumph SC tonight with a dominant 3-1 victory at Legacy Early College. With this win, Tormenta FC leads Greenville with a 3-1-0 (W-L-D) 2021 record and all-time record of 5-4-1.
In the 11th minute, Luca Mayr-Fälten scored an early goal from close range to put Tormenta FC on top 1-0. Greenville’s Jesús Ibarra then evened up the score in the 21st minute, scoring the home side’s lone goal of the night.
Tormenta came into the second half ready to control the match. In the 56th minute, Azaad Liadi crossed the ball into the box, where Stefan Mueller finished up for his third goal of the season. Just three minutes later, Marco Micaletto made a beautiful strike from the right side of the box off an assist from Rodney Michael, the Sierra Leone native’s first of the season.
Notably, forward Niki Jackson made his Tormenta debut after being loaned to the club from the San Diego Loyal and nearly scored his first USL League One goal.
The club closes out its two-match road stretch at Forward Madison FC before heading home to host New England on Saturday, Aug. 21, for the Back to School Bash. The club will then close out the month with Community Appreciation Night on Saturday, Aug. 28, featuring the Dancing with the Statesboro Stars and benefitting Safe Haven, a local organization supporting those affected by domestic violence.
