STATESBORO, Ga. – South Georgia Tormenta FC looks to continue its playoff push against New England Revolution II this Saturday, Aug. 21, at 8 p.m. ET. Both sides currently have seven wins on the season and sit at 23 points in the USL League One table. A win at Erk Russell Park could propel either squad to a third place spot in the standings.
Tormenta FC and New England have only matched up once in the past, a game that Tormenta FC toppled a struggling New England side, winning the match 4-0. It was one of South Georgia's best showings of the 2020 season, led by goals from current club center back Joshua Phelps and former standouts Nil Vinyals, Jad Arslan and Devyn Jambga.
Currently on a hot streak, Revolution II has scored a total of nine goals in the past four games, and Tormenta FC will need to capitalize on counter attacks and chances inside the box. If Luca Mayr-Fälten can continue to set up goal-scoring opportunities for Tormenta FC’s leading goal scorer Marco Micaletto, then fans can expect to see a high-scoring game. Nonetheless, New England has not lost a match in over a month and has only given up four goals throughout the last four games, making for an exciting match to come.
Fans will have plenty of opportunities outside of the match to have a good time. Tormenta FC is holding a Back to School Bash with free General Admission tickets for local students. Adults can also look forward to the club’s newest promotion, $2 Mystery Beer. With the combination of students being back in school and what is anticipated to be a close match, the atmosphere should be electric.
