STATESBORO, Ga. – One of seven teams fighting for third place in the 2021 USL League One standings, South Georgia Tormenta FC looks for three points against Fort Lauderdale CF this Saturday, Aug. 28, at Erk Russell Park. With eight matches remaining in the regular season, Tormenta FC enters a critical stretch and searches for consecutive wins to stay in the playoff race.
In Tormenta FC’s first match of the season on April 17, Fort Lauderdale took down the Statesboro side at Erk Russell Park, sliding by with a 1-0 win. Sitting in tenth place, Fort Lauderdale has picked up one win and two draws in its last six matchups. The MLS side has given up the most goals in USL League One this season while also ranking second in goals scored with 27.
Despite recording 21 shots, Tormenta FC’s last match ended in a frustrating 1-1 draw at home, leaving the squad motivated to win all three points this Saturday. The home side’s one goal was scored by midfielder Luca Mayr-Fälten and assisted by former TFC 2 standout Rodney Michael.
After taking on Fort Lauderdale, Tormenta FC heads to Gillette Stadium to battle New England once more, looking to take home all three points. The club will then host North Texas SC at Erk Russell Park on Saturday, Sept. 11 for Hispanic Heritage Night.
