STATESBORO, Ga. – South Georgia Tormenta FC went down 4-2 to Fort Lauderdale CF tonight in a frustrating match at Erk Russell Park, with a brace scored by Azaad Liadi, the club’s first brace of the season. The Statesboro side fought hard and created chances, but ultimately suffered from the loss of three leaders on the pitch Joshua Phelps, Lars Eckenrode and Abuchi Obinwa.
Fort Lauderdale scored three goals in the first half, recorded by Shaun Hundal and a brace by George Acosta. The visitors scored first in the 27th minute after miscommunication about an offside call, followed by two goals facilitated by clinical passing. In the second half, Fort Lauderdale notched another goal scored by Braxton Najib.
Tormenta FC responded to Fort Lauderdale’s four-goal lead with two late-match goals in the 83rd and 91st minutes, both scored by forward Azaad Liadi. With tonight’s brace, Liadi recorded his second and third goals of the season and earned tonight’s Man of the Match title, presented by Galactic Comics and Games.
Tormenta FC had two fresh faces in the lineup tonight, forward Niki Jackson and defender Luis Rodriguez, who both made their first starts of the season. Jackson recorded one shot, and Rodriguez made three clearances and one tackle.
Tormenta FC now travels to Gillette Stadium to battle New England Revolution II once more, looking to take home all three points. The club will then host North Texas SC at Erk Russell Park on Saturday, Sept. 11 for Hispanic Heritage Night.
