STATESBORO, Ga. – South Georgia Tormenta FC is pleased to announce the signing of Kenyan midfielder Tobias Otieno Omondi to its 2022 professional roster on a two-year deal, pending league and federation approval.
Prior to joining Tormenta FC, 23-year-old Otieno helped Union Omaha win its first USL League One title in club history. During the 2021 campaign, Otieno played 1,529 minutes in 25 matches, resulting in two goals and three assists. On Nov. 20, 2021, the defensive midfielder scored a stoppage-time goal to help seal Omaha’s championship title win 3-0 just three minutes after entering the fixture.
“In Tobias, we feel we have a best-in-class holding midfielder in USL League One and the Championship,” Head Coach Ian Cameron commented. “Otieno is a player that teammates love playing with as he competes for everything and has an infectious love of the game.
“He arrived at USL League One and achieved great success at Union Omaha. Now, we aim to develop his game even further and build on that success.”
Prior to Omaha, Otieno played in the Kenya Premier League for two seasons as one of the league’s youngest starters, gaining experience in the CAF Confederation Cup and the CAF Champions League. Otieno made his pro soccer debut for his hometown team SoNy Sugar before departing to join the Nairobi-based Gor Mahia FC. Otieno was also a member of the Kenyan U23 Men’s National Team.
Otieno joins a growing roster of returners ready for a championship run, with the added power of defenders Ian Antley and Deshawon Nembhard and former TFC 2 midfielder Gabriel Cabral.
