STATESBORO, Ga. – South Georgia Tormenta FC has announced the addition of goalkeeper William “TJ” Bush to its 2022 USL League One roster on a one-year contract, pending league and federation approval.
“This is a guy we loved in college at James Madison,” Head Coach Ian Cameron commented. “We weren’t surprised when he was drafted by the Sounders, but like many top college players who have graduated in the last two years, a convoluted COVID landscape awaited them.”
“When we caught wind he was available, we moved quickly, and we’re delighted to pick him up. He will learn from Pablo this year, and we hope Pablo will learn from him.”
Bush was drafted 80th overall by the Seattle Sounders FC in the 2021 MLS SuperDraft, a historic first for the James Madison University Men’s Soccer program. After being drafted, the Virginia native continued his collegiate career, recording 30 saves and five shutouts while only allowing four goals in his last season with the Dukes. Bush closed out the Spring 2021 season ranked third in the country in save percentage (.882) and fifth for goals-against average (.417) before signing his first professional contract with the Charlotte Independence.
The 6-foot-3 goalkeeper earned two All-CAA First Team selections for James Madison, where he appeared in a total of 57 games over three seasons. Bush allowed just 49 goals and compiled an impressive 30-13-5 record from 2017-2019, logging 0.84 goals-against average.
“I’m extremely excited to be joining Tormenta for the 2022 season,” TJ Bush commented. “They have put together an incredible group of players and I look forward to getting to know everyone and making a run for the League One Title!”
Bush joins a strong core of Tormenta FC veterans in Statesboro, with the exciting additions of midfielders Tobias Otieno and Gabriel Cabral, as well as defenders Deshawon Nembhard and Ian Antley. Additional player signings, kit reveals and more are expected in the coming weeks, so fans should download the Tormenta FC app or follow the club on social media to stay up to date.
Tormenta FC looks forward to welcoming supporters to its new 5,300-seat stadium set to open its doors in 2022. Supporters can now purchase season tickets in advance to guarantee their spot at every home match, available with 12-month payment plans.
