STATESBORO, Ga. – Just five days after reporting for preseason, South Georgia Tormenta FC’s professional USL League One team defeated Georgia Southern University Men’s Soccer 1-0 tonight in a 60-minute scrimmage. There was a buzzing crowd at Erk Russell Park, supporting local soccer despite the dropping temperatures and raising over 800 dollars for Safe Haven, Statesboro’s local domestic violence nonprofit.
Tormenta FC’s game-winner came just under the 60-minute mark as a team trialist fired a straight shot past Georgia Southern’s keeper. The 2022 squad looked strong creatively and chemistry-wise for their first match, growing comfortable with each other as the game went on and spending more and more time in Georgia Southern’s offensive half.
TFC trialists showed up tonight, but recently-announced midfielder Kingsford Adjei also looked impressive on the pitch tonight, exciting the crowd with his multiple near-goals. Notably, forward Arthur Bosua proved to read the match well by creating chances and nearly scoring a goal of his own in the first half. Supporters also got their first look at defender Deshawon Nembhard and Jake Dengler, who helped the team secure a clean sheet tonight from the back line.
The club is excited to open its new soccer-specific stadium in Statesboro, Georgia, during the 2022 season with more details to be announced this Spring. Supporters should purchase ticket packages in advance to secure their spot in the new stadium and cheer on Tormenta FC across USL League One, League Two and W League.
