STATESBORO, Ga. – South Georgia Tormenta FC 2 has announced midfielder Nicholas Akoto to its 2022 USL League Two roster, pending league and federation approval. A 2021 NAIA National Champion, Akoto joins the squad under Head Coach Tom Morris as he aspires for a fourth USL League Two title run.
“Nick embodies the archetypal modern full-back in the fact that he is fast, mobile, and has attacking prowess to get up and down the field, impacting the game at both ends,” Head Coach Tom Morris commented. “We are excited to have Nick in our professional environment this summer so that he can learn from our League One pros about the finer details and habits of what it takes to excel after college.”
Akoto is part of the Keiser University men’s soccer team where he played 1092 minutes and tallied five assists in 2021 to help the program win its first NAIA National Championship. The English midfielder transferred to Keiser from Tennessee Wesleyan University where he spent two seasons, scoring five goals and eight assists.
Akoto also brings USL League Two experience from the Ocean City Noreasters, Akoto now joins Tormenta FC 2 for his next step into the realms of professional soccer. The club looks forward to opening its new 5,300-seat stadium in Statesboro this year, which will serve as home to the club’s USL League One, League Two and W League squads, as well as Georgia Southern University Men’s and Women’s NCAA Division I soccer teams.
