STATESBORO, Ga. – Tormenta FC Academy’s 2009 Girls Ibis team lifted the trophy at the 2022 Jefferson Cup, one of the nation’s premier youth soccer tournaments, in Richmond, Virginia, on March 20 after defeating North Carolina FC Youth Premier RL 5-1 in the championship game.
“Winning the Jefferson Cup is quite an accomplishment,” 2009 Girls Ibis Head Coach Miguel Lopez commented. “I am proud of each and every individual player on the team. Every player is vital to our team’s success.”
The 2009 Ibis won their group convincingly with 3 wins and 0 losses while scoring 13 goals and only conceding once. The team advanced to the championship game against North Carolina FC’s 09s and defeated the North Carolina side 5-1 to take the title.
Hollis Melnick scored nine of the team’s 18 goals during the tournament, while Madalynn Baker, Ashley Brothers, and Ayla Reynolds also contributed with some key assists. Maggie Dodge, Keiley Good, and goalkeeper Bella Grace Baker worked hard and made it tough for their opponents all weekend.
The 2005 and 2007 girls teams will be in the Jefferson Cup College Showcase this upcoming weekend, Mar 25-27.
