STATESBORO, Ga. – Georgia Tormenta FC has signed fullback Owen Green and midfielder Barakatulla “Barry” Sharifi to its 2022 USL league One roster, pending league and federation approval.
“Owen performed well last summer in our USL League Two structure,” Head Coach Ian Cameron commented. “Owen has the physical attributes modern fullbacks need and he has shown in the last few weeks that he has the potential to step up and earn minutes for our USL League One roster. We’re delighted to see him continue on his pathway within our club structure.”
Green played for Tormenta FC 2 during the 2021 season, where he helped the team achieve its third League Two playoff appearance and second playoff run with two goals and three assists in 11 matches.
The former TFC 2 fullback trained with the club’s League One side for its 2022 preseason before solidifying his first professional contract.
“Thank you to the club for the opportunity to continue to do what I love this season,” Green commented. “Know that I will give it my all every day. As a team, we all have the opportunity to bring the league title to Statesboro this season.”
Sharifi trained with the League One side during preseason before solidifying a deal with the club. In his first game with the club, Sharifi assisted the final goal against Young Harris College after coming into the game during the second half.
“Barry has demonstrated in the last week that he has a skill set that is a little different to what our squad possesses in the 10 position,” Cameron said. “We’re quite powerful and dynamic there with our current composition, whereas he’s composed and links play very effectively. That versatility will be a nice addition.”
The Loyola Maryland graduate was selected in the third round of the 2020 MLS SuperDraft by New York Red Bulls as the 67th overall pick. Sharifi was signed to a USL Championship contract with New York Red Bulls II. The midfielder then signed for Loudoun United of the USL Championship in 2021.
“I am excited to play for Tormenta FC in 2022,” Sharifi commented. “After a 2021 filled with injuries, Tormenta FC brings me a new opportunity to get back on the field. I want to do big things this season with the team.”
Green and Sharifi join an impressive roster ahead of Tormenta FC’s home opener on April 2 versus North Carolina FC. Supporters should purchase season memberships, flex packages and single-game tickets in advance to guarantee their spot at every home match. Additional player announcements, kit reveals and more are expected in the near future, so fans should download the Tormenta FC app or follow the club on social media to stay up to date.
