STATESBORO, Ga. – South Georgia Tormenta FC defender Jake Dengler was named to the USL League One Team of the Week for Week One after a stellar performance in Saturday’s season opener.
Tormenta FC opened its 2022 League One Campaign at home in a 0-1 defeat, despite recording 72 percent of the possession and 14 shots against North Carolina FC.
Dengler played an important part of the defensive and offensive lines in his League One debut. The 23-year-old defender had a team-high of 107 touches and won six of his seven aerial duels.
Dengler currently leads the league in passing (92) and is quickly starting to become a fan favorite in the 912.
Tormenta FC will now enter U.S. Open Cup play, heading to South Carolina to take on the Charleston Battery on Wednesday, April 6, at 7 p.m. ET. The winner of the matchup will enter the third round of the national tournament.
Following TFC’s open cup match, the team will return home to host reigning champions Union Omaha on Saturday, April 16 at Erk Russell Park.
