STATESBORO, Ga. – South Georgia Tormenta FC has announced the four nominees for the Tormenta FC Player of the Month award for April, and the community will decide the winner.
Forward Arthur Bosua and defenders Jake Dengler, Joshua Phelps and Curtis Thorn are all up for the award after a winning 2-1-1 USL League One record in April and five consecutive clean sheets across all competitions (League One and Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup).
Voting for the Tormenta FC Player of the Month award will run through Thursday, May 5, at 11:59 p.m. ET, with voting permitted once per day. The winner will be determined via a weighted vote from the following three voting bodies:
- A fan vote (poll below) will comprise 60 percent of the poll.
- The Tormenta FC staff ballots will comprise 20 percent of the poll.
- Media ballots comprise 20 percent of the poll.
Voting results will be announced on Friday, May 6.
Player of the Month Nominees:
Arthur Bosua, Forward: Arthur Bosua led Tormenta FC’s offense in April with two goals and an assist in all competitions. The 6-foot-3 forward scored a game-winning goal in the Second Round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup versus his former team, the Charleston Battery, on April 7.
On April 24, Bosua recorded both a goal and an assist on the road against regional rival Greenville Triumph SC. The forward also leads the team in USL League One shots with 13.
Jake Dengler, Defender: Jake Dengler shone both defensively and offensively from his centerback position in April. The defender helped Tormenta FC advance to the Fourth Round of the U.S. Open Cup with a header goal on April 20.
Dengler leads Tormenta FC in League One clearances with 23 and is ranked second on the team for passes with 205. The 6-foot-5 centerback also recorded five interceptions and three blocks throughout the month.
Joshua Phelps, Defender: Joshua Phelps stayed consistent in the backline throughout April, helping Tormenta FC to five clean sheets in a row. In 342 minutes of USL League One play, Phelps recorded an overall passing accuracy of 77.6%. The Australian defender leads Tormenta FC in blocks with five and ranks second on the team in clearances and interceptions with 12 and 9, respectively.
Curtis Thorn, Defender: Curtis Thorn showed his versatility in April, excelling offensively from the backline. Thorn not only scored a goal in the U.S. Open Cup against the Birmingham Legion but also leads Tormenta FC in chances created with seven.
In 360 minutes of League One play, the English defender recorded five clearances, two blocks, and two interceptions.
