STATESBORO, Ga. – South Georgia Tormenta FC returns home this Saturday, May 7, to take on the Charlotte Independence at Erk Russell Park at 7:30 p.m ET. Tormenta FC seeks its first home win of the season after two back-to-back away wins against Greenville Triumph and FC Tucson.
“On film, Charlotte Independence look like a USL Championship-quality team. The Independence have players on loan from MLS sides, they have players with MLS experience and they have players that can play in USL Championship comfortably. The team is very good in possession, but we have tools that can hurt them on and off the ball. This game will be a great clash of two teams fighting to create some separation from each other at the top of the table.”
Ian Cameron, Tormenta FC Head Coach
South Georgia continues to impress after a run of great results to start the season. With five unbeaten games and five clean sheets, Tormenta FC knows the importance of continuing this great form throughout the entire season. With the fewest goals conceded across USL League One, Tormenta FC now faces one of the best front lines in the league.
Tormenta FC has been successful in early visits to USL League One and U.S. Open Cup rivals, however, a loss and a draw at home were not the results wanted by the team. This Saturday, in front of Tormenta Nation, Statesboro’s professional soccer team will have an opportunity to rewrite the narrative and make Erk Russell Park a fortress once again.
“We want to make our home a fortress. We want to make it a place that teams fear coming to and know that they are in for a challenge. The game against the Independence is the perfect game to come out and finally get our win at home in front of our fans.”
Jamil Roberts, Tormenta FC Midfielder
Last Saturday, the Independence battled in an impressive 2-1 win against USL League One winners Union Omaha. In an uphill battle, the Independence came back from a 0-1 deficit to hand the reigning champions their first loss of the season. Currently ranked third in League One standings, Charlotte has the leading offense after scoring eight goals in four games, averaging two goals a game.
Tormenta FC is excited for a historic 2022 as it transitions from Erk Russell Park to Tormenta Stadium. Single-match tickets are live for advance purchase ahead of Saturday’s match. Supporters can also purchase season memberships or Flex Ticket packages to guarantee their presence at every home match this season.
