STATESBORO, Ga. – South Georgia Tormenta FC’s season continues this Saturday, May 21, at 7:30 p.m. ET as the team welcomes Central Valley Fuego FC to Erk Russell Park to face off with the California side for the first time in club history.
Following the conclusion of the team’s performance in the Lamar Hunt U.S Open Cup, Tormenta FC bounced back last Saturday with a 3-2 win at North Carolina FC. South Georgia knew a win was crucial to remain at the top of the table; goals from Kazaiah Sterling, Barry Sharifi and Arthur Bosua sealed the win for Tormenta FC in Cary, North Carolina.
Although the performance was not exactly perfect, South Georgia continues to correct flaws that were present last season. Finishing opportunities, taking advantage of defensive mistakes and pressing were all crucial to Saturday’s win. Although the defensive unit’s clean sheet run came to an end, South Georgia still leads the league in clean sheets with four.
South Georgia has obtained its three wins of the season on the road. With wins at Greenville Triumph, FC Tucson and NCFC, South Georgia looks for its first win at home against newcomers Central Valley Fuego FC after two draws and a loss to open the season at Erk Russell Park.
In a fascinating match, Central Valley Fuego obtained its third draw of the season last Saturday, May 14, on the road against league-leaders, the Chattanooga Red Wolves in a 2-2 result. The Fresno side will now look for its third win of the season this Saturday to continue its climb up the table.
Notably, former Tormenta FC signee Tunde Akinlosotu and former TFC 2 players William Gillingham and Michael Hornsby form part of Central Valley’s inaugural USL League One roster. The trio returns to Statesboro after starting their path to pro with South Georgia Tormenta FC.
Tormenta FC is excited for a historic 2022 as it transitions from Erk Russell Park to Tormenta Stadium. Single-match tickets are live for advance purchase ahead of Saturday’s match. Supporters can also purchase season memberships or Flex Ticket packages to guarantee their presence at every home match this season.
